Business icon Anwar Hossain no more
This is very sad news for us all. Anwar Hossain (Anowar Group), our beloved, respected, loved and respected Business icon, is no more with us. . Inna Lillahe Wa Inna Ilaihe Rajeun. He died in Dhaka’s Labaid Hospital at the age of 83. It was a very sad day for us all. Let us all pray to the Almighty Allah (SWT) for his soul. May Allah (SWT), place him in Jannat ul Ferdous. He was a veteran businessman who had suffered from dementia and other old-age complications. He was the founder and chairman of Anwar Group of Industries and The City Bank Limited. He also founded Bangladesh Finance and Investment Company Ltd. and City General Insurance Company Limited.
The DCCI Foundation’s chairman for many years was Hossain. He is a well-known industrialist and business icon.
Anwar Silk Mills was established by Hossain in 1968. He was the first Bangalee to own a silk mill in East Pakistan (now Bangladesh) and began marketing the Mala Sari, a product that quickly became a popular commodity.
